Accommodation Support

Practical support to explore housing options, rental applications, tenancy support, disability-related accommodation pathways, and safe transitions into more stable housing.

Nhanya Foundation provides practical accommodation support for people experiencing housing stress, unsafe living conditions, disability-related housing needs, or difficulty finding suitable accommodation.

We do not operate crisis accommodation or a fixed residential facility. Instead, we work alongside individuals, families, referrers, support coordinators, housing providers and community networks to help people explore suitable options, prepare applications, connect with appropriate providers, and plan the next step towards safe and stable housing.

Our role is to help make the housing pathway clearer, calmer and more manageable.

What We Can Help With

Housing can become difficult for many reasons. Some people need urgent guidance because their current housing is unsafe. Others may need support to find a more suitable home, understand their options, prepare rental applications, or connect with disability-related accommodation pathways.

Nhanya Foundation may assist with:

  • Finding suitable housing options
  • Rental application support
  • Tenancy support and communication with housing providers
  • Furniture or basic setup support where appropriate
  • Short-term accommodation pathways
  • Medium Term Accommodation pathways
  • SIL or SDA vacancy search and referral support
  • Planning transitions into more stable housing

Connecting with support coordinators, therapists, housing workers or other relevant services

We do not guarantee accommodation, tenancy approval, SDA approval, SIL placement or emergency housing. Availability depends on individual circumstances, eligibility, funding, provider capacity and suitable housing options at the time.

Disability-related accommodation pathways

For people with disability, housing needs may involve several different pathways.

Where a person is seeking Supported Independent Living (SIL), Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), Short Term Accommodation (STA), or Medium Term Accommodation (MTA), Nhanya Foundation can help with practical coordination, referrals and planning.

This may include helping the person or their representative understand options, gather relevant information, identify suitable providers, communicate with support coordinators or therapists, and plan a safe transition.

Where accommodation or supports require a registered or specialist provider, Nhanya will work with appropriately registered or suitable providers. Our role is to support the person to access the right pathway, not to present ourselves as the owner or operator of all accommodation options.

Support to find and maintain housing

Accommodation support is not only about finding a place. It is also about helping people stay connected, feel settled, and reduce the risk of housing breakdown.

We can support people to understand housing requirements, communicate with landlords or housing providers, organise basic setup needs, and connect with services that may help them sustain their accommodation.

For some people, this may involve tenancy support. For others, it may involve linking with community housing, private rental options, disability accommodation providers, family violence services, youth services, or other community supports.

Supporting women, children, young people and CALD communities

Nhanya Foundation is committed to supporting women, children, young people, people with disability, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We understand that housing stress can be more difficult when people are also experiencing family violence, trauma, language or cultural barriers, migration stress, disability, poverty, social isolation or limited family support.

Our approach is respectful, practical and culturally responsive. We listen first, explain options clearly, and work with the person and their support network to identify the safest and most suitable next step.

Why choose Nhanya Foundation?

Nhanya means persistence. That is how we approach accommodation support.

We understand that housing pathways can be stressful, slow and confusing. We stay engaged with people and referrers to help reduce barriers, follow through on practical steps, and support better coordination between services.

Nhanya Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity. Our work is guided by purpose, not private profit. Any surplus generated through our services is applied to our charitable purposes and community benefit, helping us continue supporting women, children, young people and families experiencing hardship, instability and disadvantage.
